Bogalusa Tribune Exclusive

Bogalusa, LA (September 18, 2023)— Mayor Tyrin Truong's administration has been making remarkable strides in securing funding commitments since the beginning of this year, with an impressive $5.5 million being allocated for various crucial projects to enhance the city's infrastructure, public safety, and overall quality of life.

The city has recently received $162,000 in financial support from the State of Louisiana for the installation of additional crime cameras throughout Bogalusa. This funding will play a pivotal role in combating violent crime by providing law enforcement with the tools they need to enhance security and surveillance. "We are fortunate that the community is now coming forward in different cases but this will provide our city with insurance. While most people are hesitant to speak up in court, cameras are not. These cameras will be installed in hotspot areas. We will also be launching a program where churches, businesses and residents will be able to apply to host a camera", Mayor Tyrin Truong stated. In addition to crime cameras, the city has also installed license plate readers on all major arteries, aiding police in solving crimes and improving overall safety within the community.

Improvements at the Bogalusa Airport have also been prioritized, with the administration securing $80,000 from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). These funds will be instrumental in upgrading airport facilities, aiming to attract a corporate commercial warehouse at the Industrial Park, strategically located to the north of the airport. This development could potentially bring significant economic opportunities to the city.

In an effort to improve water quality across select areas of Bogalusa, the administration has secured $50,000 in water sector grants. These funds will be utilized to address water quality concerns, ensuring that residents have access to clean and safe drinking water.

The central business district near City Hall, including Memphis Street, is set to receive a major facelift thanks to a $362,000 grant from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). The funds will be used to repave sidewalks and streets in this vital area, making it more accessible and attractive to businesses and residents alike.

Furthermore, Bogalusa has recently been awarded $400,000 from the Department of Transportation to revamp the sidewalk along Avenue B, stretching from Bogalusa High School to the Avenue B Sportsplex. This project aims to enhance pedestrian safety and accessibility in the community, fostering a more walkable and vibrant city.

In a significant development, the city is poised to receive a substantial $4.5 million grant from the state to address a failing sewer treatment plant. This vital funding will help address long-standing issues with the city's sewer system, ensuring a more sustainable and environmentally friendly approach to wastewater treatment. The success of securing this funding can be attributed to the tireless advocacy efforts of Representative Malinda Brumfield White at the state legislature, who championed the cause and secured the necessary support for this crucial project.

Mayor Tyrin Truong's administration is making substantial progress in securing funding for critical city projects, demonstrating a strong commitment to improving the quality of life for Bogalusa residents. These investments in public safety, infrastructure, and community development are poised to have a lasting positive impact on the city and its future growth.
