NEW ORLEANS, LA - The New Orleans Saints dominated the Carolina Panthers in their Week 1 match up on September 8, 2024, with a decisive 47-10 victory. Led by quarterback Derek Carr, who threw for 200 yards and three touchdowns, the Saints controlled the game from the outset.
Carr connected with wide receiver Rashid Shaheed for a 59-yard touchdown on the opening drive and followed it up with touchdown passes to tight ends Foster Moreau and Juwan Johnson, giving New Orleans a commanding 30-3 lead by halftime.
The Saints' offense was relentless, scoring on their first nine possessions. Alvin Kamara contributed 110 total yards, and Jamaal Williams added a 14-yard touchdown run. Kicker Blake Grupe was also impressive, nailing four field goals, two of which were from beyond 50 yards.
Defensively, the Saints overwhelmed Carolina’s young quarterback Bryce Young, who completed just 13 of 30 passes for 161 yards, was intercepted twice, and sacked four times. Defensive back Alontae Taylor recorded three of those sacks.
For the Panthers, Bryce Young's struggles continued as the offense managed just one touchdown—a 3-yard scramble by Young in the third quarter.
The Saints will travel to face the Dallas Cowboys in Week 2.
